I’ve also seen a nomination turned down as they were seen to be too old, not numerically but as they had taken early retirement a few years earlier they were seen as having lost currency.
When the HEA Subject Centres existed the Engineering Subject Centre held a data base of existing and potential EE’s as a form of brokerage and I know that there was some training as well as discussion with PSRBs and the Engineering Council about bringing together standards and expectations across the discipline.
When I ‘broke in’ to the EE circuit it was through experience of working on Reviews, Validations and delivering workshops across institutions that counted, but then is that also a closed loop?
Best regards
Roger

Enjoy your youth while you may - I have the experience, but one university retracted their offer of an External Examinership because I was "old"!

It reminds me of being young and looking for a job in the local burger joint/café/shop and seeing "previous experience required".
But I was young, and had no experience. A catch-22...
Best wishes,
