Hi
When I suggested publishing reviews of a volume of case studies as a
part of the volume, I of course meant the kind of feature review one
finds in the broadsheets, THES, TLS, etc where the author engages their
own thinking with the book being reviewed, and not the rather dull,
simply descriptive 'review' which recommends a book, perhaps mentioning
a couple of things the writer found interesting/useful (which is typical
of a lot of reviews of educational books, and which is little more than
a strong or weak 'puff' for the book concerned) I mean the kind of
review which you feel was worth reading in its own right - which is
challenging. Lets have more of this kind of review in the periodicals
of staff and educational development, and less of the 300/400 word
overview. Sometimes a 'bad' book can generate a very gripping and
interesting review, so lets have none of that stuff about only having
'good' reviews - in the 'serious' press such an idea is a nonsense.
