Joint IRNetwork & SEDA Research Network meeting
'How does Institutional Research impact on learning, teaching and assessment?'
Convenor: Ranald Macdonald. Sheffield Hallam University.
The first meeting of IRNet will be held on February 18th at Sheffield Hallam University. The meeting (10.30 to 15.30) will provide the opportunity to explore IR from an educational development perspective, i.e. how we generate and use evidence to support developments in areas such as personal development planning, the curriculum, plagiarism and formative assessment.
The approach used by the Learning and Teaching Institute at Sheffield Hallam University involves working closely with colleagues in Schools and other Departments to provide a pedagogical basis for developments in policy and practice across the institution. How do other institutions engage in institutional research? How does IR feed into the policy and professional decision making process? What evidence is there that IR influences thinking, policy and practice? How can we engage HE communities through IR? What approaches work don't work and why? These are some of the questions that will fuel discussion.
The meeting, which is sponsored by the LTSN Generic Centre, includes a buffet lunch. There are 40 places available and they will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
