Dear Seda, Could you please distribute this which I think
will be of interest?
Thanks

Here are details of an unusual workshop offering an
opportunity to work in a participative and experiential way
on the relation between teaching and learning, learners and
teachers. Academics have followed this course in the
past years and have found it very beneficial.

Teaching and Learning in Organisations
Managing Roles and Relations in Learning Contexts
Thursday 3 - Saturday 5 February 2000
Who the Course is for ...
Those who manage and lead organisations where learning is
important for staff - senior executives, heads and
principals, inspectors and advisers, trainers, those with
team management responsibilities, as well as those with
direct responsibility for teaching and training in
organisations. Recent members have come from the UK,
Ireland, Holland, Belgium, Sweden and Norway.
How the Course works ...
This is an experiential Course. Three
interacting events create the process of the Course. One
creates opportunities to learn by exploring behaviour in a
small group as it happens; one examines the way different
assumptions about teaching and learning interact and affect
behaviour; the third draws on the first two events to work
in depth on live case studies of teaching and learning
brought to the Course by members.
Why the Course is important now ...
Organisational change is effective when
those who work in institutions can learn, can learn fast,
and can pass on what has been learned to others. Effective
learning has always involved a teaching function, even when
that has not been formally identified. Taking the role of
manager involves 'teaching' staff about new policies, new
legislation, new skills and new knowledge, as well as
simply how to do existing jobs better. The traditional
models of the roles of 'teacher' and 'learner' need to be
added to and extended. More collaborative patterns are
relevant, and issues of power and authority have to be
analysed more carefully.
Comments from last year's participants ...
§ I have developed hugely as a learner and
effective consultant (Development Consultant)
§ A great deal of learning occurred for me in a short period of time:
I now work differently with my MBA group on OD and Change
(Business School Lecturer)
§ I am more sensitive that what I say is not what people hear and, in
order to be effective, I now take time to reflect on what people do hear
(Deputy Headteacher)
