Dear Colleagues
SEDA Workshop: Building staff capacity for university community engagement
This workshop addresses a new area of educational development and institutional policy. It focuses on ways that higher education institutions can support and recognise the work of staff involved in university-community engagement activity, such as community based learning. Community engagement enriches the student experience, develops graduate skills and capabilities and contributes to forging effective university-community partnerships.
The workshop will enable participants to share, learn and take back to their institutions proposals for good practice in recognising and supporting staff. It is led by Professor Lindsey McEwen and Professor Kristine Mason O'Connor and draws on their recent research and the SEDA Special 32 publication they edited, 'Developing Community Engagement'. Paul Manners, Director of the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement wrote of the publication, 'it calls attention to the necessity of supporting and recognising staff contribution to this important aspect of curriculum development.'
The workshop will be of interest to educational developers, staff responsible for community based learning and institutional leaders of institutional policy.
