Salary: £29,972 to £35,788 per annum (negotiable 0.8 pro-rata or full
time)

This post relates to the three Master’s-level programmes of study
currently offered by the Distance Learning Unit – Integrated
Environmental Management, Electrical Power Systems and International
Construction Management, which are being studied by approximately 1000
students worldwide. It is core to the effective operation of the Unit
and the skill set required for it is particularly broad. It is
anticipated that the successful candidate will have a sound working
knowledge of educational pedagogy, excellent written and communication
skills and solid experience in the development of teaching and learning
materials for programmes of study delivered through a variety of media.
The DL Unit Educational Technologist will be responsible for the
production of all new distance learning materials, the updating of
existing materials and the pedagogical critique of the associated
curriculum and assessment. Working in close association with the
Directors of Study for each of the three DL programmes and the
e-Learning Development Officer, the postholder will bear significant
responsibility for the educational effectiveness of the content and
process that constitute the student experience.
The ideal candidate will have a solid background in developmental work
within education centred on science or engineering and possess the
ability to establish effective working relationships with DL team
members and external authors and consultants. Impeccable editorial
skills are a prerequisite, while a knowledge of print production methods
would be an advantage.
