REVITALISING DOCTORAL SUPERVISION for Medical and Dental Sciences: CONSULTANCY OPPORTUNITY
We would like to engage a specialist in change management planning in higher education for approximately 3-5 days work. The work must be completed & delivered by Friday 15th July 2011.
The specialist would conduct an initial needs analysis and produce a report comprising an action plan to support a 4-5 year programme of work for the revitalisation of PhD supervision provision within the College of Medical and Dental Sciences at the University of Birmingham.
We would expect the report to set out an action and communication plan to assist the College in effecting a significant improvement in the supervision experience of their PhD students. We anticipate the report will include:
1. A communications plan (draft communications materials such as flyers/leaflets for staff to be included)
2. Comments on the proposed refresher and good practice training session to be delivered by the University
3. Recommendations for follow-up and support activities and resources
4. Recommendations for processes to ensure compliance and quality assurance
5. Outline plan for evaluation / impact assessment
6. Other contents as agreed with the College
This activity constitutes the preparation for a supported programme of refresher training / updating for approximately 400 PhD supervisors over a 4 – 5 year period. We are tendering for a change management planning specialist to undertake this initial piece of work and to produce an action plan and written report. We have sufficient funds to contract for up to 5 days depending on rates. We would require the report and action plan to be submitted Friday 15th July 2011. There is the potential for further specialist work in developing and supporting a core team of senior academic staff who would work with University staff to implement the plan, and to implement similar programmes in other Colleges.
