'SEDA news'
Commencing this month SEDA Executive will seek to keep in touch more closely with SEDA members through brief regular contributions of news items to the SEDA mail base. Full details of SEDA developments will continue to be included in Educational Developments. In the interests of transparency our intention is to post the agenda and minutes of SEDA Executive meetings on the web later this year. We would welcome your views on how SEDA members can be both more fully informed and contribute to developments.
We'd like to commence this first 'SEDA news' by welcoming Dr Shân Wareing the new Co-Chair of SEDA, elected at last month's Annual General
Meeting. Shân is the Director of the Educational Development Centre at Royal Holloway, University of London, with a background in sociolinguistics and current interests, in particular, in disciplinary differences (and similarities) in learning and teaching. (see://www.rhul.ac.uk/Edcational-development/Centre/About/biogs/shan.htm).
Other members of SEDA Executive are listed on the SEDA website.
In future the Chair of each of SEDA's Committees will be updating you with news through the mail base.
In April this year I represented SEDA at the Council meeting of the International Consortium of Educational Development (ICED) in Rijeka. Our hosts were the Croatian Society for Development of Higher Education 'Universitas'.
(see http://www.csd.osds.uwa.edu.au/about/activities/hosted_sites/iced for details of ICED). Twelve of ICED's nineteen networks were represented at the meeting where we were able to exchange views and experiences in promoting educational development. I contributed to a workshop session on the development of professional standards for higher education teaching, highlighting SEDA's major contribution over the past decade. The next ICED Conference will be held at Sheffield Hallam in June 2006 and jointly hosted by SEDA and the Sri Lankan Network led by Professor Suki Ekaratne,University of Colombo; Ranald Macdonald will be keeping everyone informed.
The next 'SEDA news' will be devoted to SEDA's appreciation of the magnificent contribution of Jill Brookes and her Team who have been the heart of SEDA for so long. Details of the new administrative arrangements will be included.
With best wishes
Kristine Mason O'Connor
Vice-Chair
