Dear Colleague
Apologies if you receive this message more than once!
ESCALATE, the LTSN for Education, is developing its support for the
professional development of tutors / trainers who provide input into
training programmes for HE teachers. As the first step a needs analysis is
being conducted via institutional visits and a mail shot (this message).
Currently, two outcomes are envisaged. The first is a sustainable web
resource which will sit on the Escalate site (www.escalate.ac.uk) and
provide links to appropriate resources for the target audience. The second
is a one-day conference to be held for tutors / trainers.
There are already various resource guides on the Internet but the new guide
will be distinctive because it will focus on professional development for
tutors / trainers. It is hoped to encourage a critical approach to HE
teacher education, emphasising the explicatory / educational role of
training. To this end, a paper is being commissioned from a leading figure
in the field which will lay out the current state of the art and examine
critically key issues.
Here is a list of topics that could be covered by the web guide. Please
indicate which of these would be of interest to you and please mention any
others that are not included or make any other comments or suggestions,
including any on-line resources that you may feel are relevant and useful.
- Methods for training HE teachers
- Assessment methods for use on HE teacher training, eg portfolios,
observation of teaching, assignments, etc
- Use of new technologies / on-line learning to deliver training
