DIRECTOR OF THE INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT CENTRE
Located in Kingston, Ontario, Queen's University is one of Canada's
pre-eminent universities known for the quality of its academic and
research programs and its excellent students and faculty.
Established in January 1992 with the broad mandate of enhancing teaching
effectiveness and learning satisfaction at Queens, the Instructional
Development Centre (IDC) is now recognized nationally and
internationally. The mission of the Centre is to enhance the quality of
student learning at Queen's by providing services and programs to
support the instructional development activities of individual teachers
and academic units and encouraging university policies and practices
that promote good teaching. The IDC meets these goals through its high
quality programming, its innovative collaborative practices, its
comprehensive resources, and its impact on institutional policy
development. Funded from University endowment, the IDC has a staff
complement of three full time and two part time professionals, and one

The Director of the IDC, reporting to the Vice-Principal (Academic) of
Queen's, is responsible for the overall operation and administration of
the Centre and its programs. The position will be of interest to highly
motivated individuals who wish to have a major impact on the quality of
teaching and learning at one of Canada's leading universities. The
successful candidate will have a record of substantial achievement in
instructional development and have appropriate professional
qualifications. Experience in curriculum design and development,
technology in teaching, and teaching-skill consultation is essential.
The appointment is for a renewable, five-year term and would normally be
combined with a tenurable position in an appropriate academic
discipline.
