Rob Wye, Director of Learning Programmes, Learning and Skills Council
Just over a year since the establishment of the Learning and Skills Council, there has already been significant engagement between the HE sector and the Learning and Skills Council. FE/HE collaboration is seen as the key to meeting the Government's commitment to increasing participation in HE. HEFCE and the LSC have recently published their joint Partnership for Progression proposals for regional collaboration and many Higher Education institutions are represented on local Learning and Skills Councils.
Following on from a similar successful Conference on the same theme held in July 2001, this Conference will address the links between the HE sector and the Learning and Skills Council at national, regional and local levels.
It aims to:
· Examine the national strategic framework for cooperation between Higher Education and the Learning and Skills Council
· Contribute to the ongoing debate on how FE/HE collaboration can contribute to meeting the Government's manifesto commitment of '50% of 18-30 year olds having experience of HE by 2010'
· Discuss the role of regional bodies in co-ordinating collaboration between the post-16 and HE sectors
· Share experience and good practice of working with local Learning and Skills Councils
