I am interested to read the debate around "making completion
compulsory". We are in the process of developing a Post-graduate
certificate in Higher Education for tertiary teachers which will be
assessed through submission of a portfolio. What I would like to
know is how you go about 'making completion compulsory'? What
do you actually do to achieve this?

At Middlesex successful completion is required - attendance alone
would seem to be an inadequate and unhelpful measure - like
assuming
that students' attendance at lectures is an indication of learning ...
