First Announcement
Investors in People Seminar: Thursday, 30 November, 2000
Achieving Investors in People through Self Evaluation
This is an opportunity to explore a route to Investors in People recognition
using a peer review methodology. Peer Review is "standard procedure" in
universities, so this approach sits well in an HE organisational culture. Its
novelty lies in applying peer review to researching and developing the
Management of People. It is in precisely this area that ever greater
demands are being placed on institutions; demands which require ever
more sophisticated responses.
University College Northampton achieved re-recognition as an Investor in
People in June this year using this methodology. Our experience has been
that this approach involves significant cost reductions, and brings major
benefits in terms of individual, team and organisational learning. The
approach is to be found on the
IiP / HE website at
www.lboro.ac.uk/service/sd/iipinhe/iipinhe.hm.
The seminar is designed for delegates from institutions which are seriously
considering an approach such as this. Delegates are strongly advised to
attend together with colleagues, so that a variety of perspectives can
inform focussed discussions. Ideally, each attending institution would be
represented by a member of senior management, a senior academic, and
a staff developer or IiP officer.
The indicative programme will be:
10.00 Arrival and coffee
10.30 Welcome
10.40 IiP in the HE Sector - The State of Play
11.00 Self Evaluation - The UCN Experience
12.00 Self Evaluation - Alternatives: An Assessor's View
12.30 Links: IiP & QAA; IiP & Management Development; IiP &
Organisational Development
1.00 Lunch
2.15 Slice Groups - Would it work for us?
3.15 Tea & Action Planning
3.45 Plenary feedback
4.00 Close
The venue will be the Sunley Management Centre at UCN's Park Campus.
The Seminar fee will be £90 per single delegate, £150 for two delegates, or
£180 for three delegates per institution.
Residential accommodation is available at the moment at the Sunley
Management Centre. To make reservations, please phone 01604 719531.
Alternative accommodation details will be sent on request.
This is a first announcement inviting expressions of interest, and enabling
colleagues to put the date in diaries. If you anticipate attending, please
email Jan Markie ([log in to unmask]) by 28 August. Please
include your postal address. Details and registration forms will be sent to
you in September.
The final date for registration is Friday, 27 October.
