Colleagues,
Educational Development Services at the University of East London is
pursuing some research projects relating to learning and teaching.
EDS wishes to appoint one, or possibly two, research assistant(s) to
work on research projects to be undertaken by the department in 1999.
We are looking for someone who can be flexible in their time, but we
expect the post to be equivalent of 0.6 or three days a week. We may
decide to appoint two 0.3 posts if that turns out to be more
suitable.
The projects include an evaluation of the impact of peer observation
of teaching within the inititial training course for new staff and
within departments preparing for Subject Review and an investigation
into reasons for student withdrawals as part of the university's
research into student retention and progression.
The Research Assistant will work with David Gosling and Dave
O'Reilly. The RA will be based at the Barking Campus of UEL.
The possibility of jointly authored papers for publication exists. It
will also be possible for the RA to register for the MA in Learning
and Teaching in HE or for a PhD.
The post(s) would suit someone who is studying for a higher degree
who wishes to take part-time employment, or someone who is already in
part-time employment as a researcher. We would prefer someone who
has experience of educational research in higher education, but this
is not essential.
The salary scale for research assistants is £12,582 - £14,148 plus
£2,121 for London Weighting. Appointments will be made within this
scale, pro rata for the fraction agreed.
Anyone interested in applying should contact, by e-mail or by
telephone, Dr David Gosling to discuss further details.
