developers takes place on February 7th at the University of Bristol. Further details follow.
There will also be a workshop in May for developers and decision makers looking to embed
learning technologies at the institutional level. Further details of this event will be posted on

EFFECTS for developers

Participants
The workshops are aimed at staff and educational developers who support HE staff in the educational
use of communications and information technology. They will also be of interest to HE policy makers
who are looking for new methods to encourage the take-up of learning technology nationally or
institutionally. Participant numbers will be limited to 30 to facilitate group interaction and learning.

Aims
Participants at this workshop will be able to:
? learn about a number of different institutional programmes for embedding C&IT into learning and
teaching (including sample materials and portfolios);
? hear participants talk about their work and describe their experience of EFFECTS programmes;
? question delegates who are currently designing new programmes within the EFFECTS framework;
? share ideas with other developers;
? discuss the EFFECTS framework in the context of their own institutional needs;
? develop a plan of action.

10:00 Coffee and registration
11.00 Introduction and brief update on the EFFECTS project 
11:20 Group exercise: who we are and where we come from
An opportunity to share current issues in embedding learning technologies at participants' own institutions,
and look at some possible approaches from the EFFECTS consortium
12.00 The EFFECTS experience
Three participants on current EFFECTS programmes will give brief presentations. Workshop delegates will
be encouraged to discuss the work in progress and explore the experience of professional development
within the EFFECTS framework.
13:00 Buffet lunch
During lunch you will be able to visit poster displays from courses running at a number of EFFECTS
institutions, discuss the various models of development and look at sample materials.
13:45 Adopting and adapting EFFECTS
Representatives from two partner institutions will discuss the experience of developing new programmes
within the EFFECTS framework. There will be opportunities to ask questions.
14:45 Interactive session
In small groups, you will be invited to explore the relevance of the EFFECTS framework to your own
institution's needs. The focus will be on co-consultancy across institutions. You will be encouraged to
begin the process of planning or mapping a programme to meet the Generic Learning Outcomes
15:30 Report back and discussion
16:00 Tea and departures

Materials
Participants will be provided with copies of the EFFECTS Generic Learning Outcomes and Guidelines
for Collaborating Institutions. It will also be possible to collect information packs from existing institutional
programmes including information such as course handbooks, mapping documents, examples of
workshop materials and handouts.

Background to the project
The TLTP3 EFFECTS project exists to help institutions evolve their own professional
development programmes which support and recognise staff who are embedding C&I
T into their students' learning. Within the EFFECTS framework, five institutions are already
delivering programmes to help staff embed and evaluate the use of learning technologies in
their own disciplines. One outcome will be a national database of case studies ranging across
a wide diversity of institutional and disciplinary contexts. Another will be the launch of a
Professional Development Network to promote collaboration and the sharing of expertise across
the HE sector. Other institutions are now developing programmes of their own with the support
of the EFFECTS consortium. Partner institutions benefit from the expertise, support materials,
model programmes and guidelines already developed by the project.

The project is also working with professional bodies and associations to ensure national
recognition for staff involved in embedding C&IT into learning and teaching. Successful EFFECTS
participants will receive a portable qualification in embedding learning technologies - for example
an endorsement to the SEDA teacher scheme or a learning technologists' recognition route to ILT
membership.
