** JISC-funded 'Staff C&IT skills' [SCAITS] project **
One-Day 'end of project' workshops:
EMBEDDING COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SKILLS
==========================================================
Stirling Management Centre, University of Stirling
26th January 2000
Chancellor's Conference Centre, University of Manchester
1st February 2000
CVCP, London 10th February 2000
What is the purpose of these workshops?
---------------------------------------
Communications and Information Technology (C&IT) skills are
of paramount importance to all HE staff. Amongst the many
staff who are computer literate there is generally a wide
variety of C&IT competence and confidence, so that the
institution's investment in technology may not pay the
dividends that could be expected. On the other hand, those
without C&IT skills are denied access to routine
information dissemination via their HEI's intranet, and
neither do they have access to the routine method of
non-verbal communication - email. What is the situation in
your institution? What might you do to further embed C&IT
skills across all your staff?
These one-day workshops will enable participants to place
their own institution on a 'road map' leading towards fully
embedded C&IT skills, and identify ways in which they can
help their institution to make progress towards that goal
in a way that is appropriate to their organisational aims.
The workshops will be run by the JISC-funded SCAITS
project, which is based at UEA, Norwich. Those attending
will be given a copy of the final SCAITS materials, which
will include case studies and examples of good practice.
Who should come?
----------------
The workshops will be relevant to Staff Developers,
Personnel staff, IT services staff and IT strategists...
and anyone else who has a finger in the 'embedding C&IT'
pie. HEIs might profitably send several people to represent
the various constituencies - especially where they tend to
operate independently of one another within the
organisation.
Consequently, even if you intend to come yourself,
please forward this email to colleagues in your institution
who might also be interested in attending.
Cost
----
The cost of the workshops (which will run from 10.45 -
15.45) is covered by JISC funds via the SCAITS project.
Members of any HEI in England, Wales, Scotland or N.Ireland
are therefore invited to apply at *no charge*.
However, participants are expected to cover their own
