The above posts are available immediately, the Educational
Development Officer on a 3-year rolling basis and the Academic
Staff Development Officer for a fixed period to 31 March 2002
(funding position thereafter to be reviewed).

the SDDU Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma programmes
in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, development
of new programmes and routes to membership of the proposed
Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education,
departmental development, and contributions to the SDDU short
course programme.

The Academic Staff Development Officer (ASDO) will have
special responsibility (approximately 50% of the time) for
providing strategic staff development support for the School of
Healthcare Studies, with particular focus on curriculum
management/development and educational development. The
appointee will also provide staff and educational development
support for academic and related staff across the University,
including contributions to the SDDU short course programme and
its Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in
Higher Education for new lecturers.

a sound knowledge and understanding of issues in HE in general
and in educational development in HE in particular, a proven

disciplines in HE, and excellent communication, facilitation,
administrative and IT skills. A masters degree in education would
be desirable. For the EDO post applicants should also have
experience of HE teaching and assessment. Experience,
knowledge and understanding of approaches to APEL in teaching
and to open, distance, flexible and computer-based learning would
be desirable, as would publications in HE. Applicants for the
ASDO post should have the ability quickly to assimilate healthcare
education and training issues, and experience of teaching and
publishing in HE would be desirable. Knowledge and
understanding of open, distance, flexible and computer-based
learning would be advantageous, as would an understanding of
contemporary healthcare education issues.
