Developing the Role of the Internal Consultant/Facilitator
University of Stirling Management Centre
15th-17th March, 1999
A flexible and interactive mix of short presentations, group work and
individual work supported by case study material developed
specifically for higher education. The overall aim of the programme is
that within their institution, participants will be able to provide an
effective lead to and through the Investors in People process.
Course Leaders
José Chambers, Director of the Comino Centre and Co-ordinator of Staff
Development, King Alfred’s College Winchester. Investors in People
Assessor and Adviser.
Bob Thackwray, Senior Consultant, UCoSDA.
Investors in People Assessor, Investors in People Approved Adviser and
co-author of ‘Investors in People Explained’ (Kogan Page 1996).
Programme Objectives
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
1 Know
. what Investors in People is and what the benefits of achieving it are;
· what the indicators supporting the Standard mean;
· what the links between the indicators are;
· basic project and change management techniques;
· how to devise a strategy to manage key groups.
2 Be able to
· interpret the indicators of the standard and assign evidence to them;
· plan out the key steps of the process;
· prepare for the assessment process;
· draft a high level project plan;
· identify how to align the institution for change;
· identify key internal and external stakeholders and potential stakeholders.
3 Feel more confident and capable of
· working with the indicators;
· managing the project;
· aligning the institution to change;
· managing key groups.
