I use an 8 stage design framework process to design and redesign modules and programmes, detailed at www.sijen.com. This allows teams to go right back to the beginning of the process and build a 'wireframe' design which ensure the final goal reflects students needs rather than facility desires. There are two 'physical' manifestations of this framework, one is the final validation document which is populated through workshops and the framework itself (with other associated models). I make heavy use of visualisations with faculty, for the purpose of drafting outcomes, designing assessment and envisaging feedback. All of these tools and visuals are again available on my site. I think such course design processes work best within a focussed time period, if you can get a course team together in a room for a week that would be ideal. Otherwise a couple of days back-to-back in two consecutive weeks also works. I run such course design workshops on a consultancy basis too.
