Hi Sue
At Sheffield Hallam we have developed this set of leaflets and use this to discuss responsible use of social media with students.

I have also copied in Eric Stoller who has a great deal of experience in this area.
Best regards
Sue

Subject: appropriate use of social media - advice appreciated
Apologies for cross-posting.
Looking to develop a policy document and knowing how helpful these lists can be, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for dealing with misuse of social media, for example students using anonymous apps (like yikyak) for inappropriate behaviour likely to cause distress to others, both staff and students.
If you have a policy for social media use would you be willing to share? I’ve found some examples online but was wandering how any in-house approaches had been implemented?
While the advantages of social media for learning and teaching can be highlighted, and students asked to monitor and moderate inappropriate use, some hard core disruption by minorities can be difficult to manage.
How do other institutions make it clear inappropriate online behaviour has consequences? Happy to collate any responses and post them back to share with list members.
Thanks
Sue
