Good morning, Jess and SEDA colleagues,
Here at Kent we (Unit for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching) run the following
- Half-day workshops called' Fundamentals of HE teaching', in conjunction with the Graduate School. These workshops are for GTAs who are either about to start teaching or expect to do so during their time as a postgraduate at Kent - a teaching element is a condition of postgraduate scholarships.
- Most, but not all, Schools also run internal sessions on e.g. subject-specific teaching, assessment ,depending on what they expect their GTAs to do.
- GTAs are also eligible to take the first two core modules of our PGCert, previously known as the Associate Teacher Accreditation Programme and now termed the Associate Fellowship Scheme http://www.kent.ac.uk/teaching/qualifications/pgche/.
All taught sessions are face to face, taught in various formats: 6 weekly 2.5 hour sessions, three day intensives and supported by online materials on our VLE. Having completed it, they have 30 M-level credits and are eligible for HEA Associate Fellowship. If their PhD supervisors agree, they can apply to upgrade to the full PGCHE, which leads 60 M-level credits and HEA Fellowship. Assuming that the HEA approves our reaccreditation documents, that is!
Best wishes
Fran
