Theory as method: applying social theory in educational research
University of Glasgow, UK, 14thApril 2015 - 9.15am –4.45pm
Funded by the British Education Research Association, this all day event is geared towards post-graduate and early career researchers who are interested or engaged in applying social theory in their own educational research. The day will include a number of speakers and sessions, with an emphasis throughout on relevance to, and engagement with, current research projects. The speakers include Dr.Kathleen Nolan from the University of Regina, Canada, Dr.Andrew Wilkins from the University of East London, and Dr.Mark Murphy of the University of Glasgow who is hosting the event.
Areas covered include:
•Theory as method: the art of application
•Foucault, governmentality and education research
•Bourdieu, social theory and the challenges of mathematics teacher education research
•Scheduled workshops where participants can work on their own projects and share ideas with others.
