Northumbria University is recruiting a team of Think Physics Outreach Specialists who will create a central physical and digital hub to excite, engage and inspire all young people from early years, to sixth form and beyond. This is an ambitious North East project which has a focus on increasing the update of physics and related Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines, inclusive of females and other under-represented groups.
Based predominantly within the Faculty of Engineering and Environment, as the director of Think Physics you will lead, coordinate and manage the innovative Think Physics project and its team of Outreach Specialists to support the project and its objectives. This will involve developing and maintaining effective partnerships with a range of different stakeholders from the children themselves to their school/college, families and external organisations including employers, professional bodies and education and science trusts.
The Outreach specialist project team will co-ordinate the planning, design and development of resources, workshops and event for teachers to help them inspire, enthuse and support the wider STEM disciplines. The team will provide creativity and innovation on the design and production of engaging inspirational materials, resources and interactive elements of the blended support system for Think Physics. Ongoing effective partnerships with, schools, employers and scientists is key to developing careers and employment in physics and the wider STEM disciplines.
The Think Physics Director must demonstrate proven success in supporting and driving forward a project’s strategy and implementation in line with the projects objectives. The Out Reach Specialists must have knowledge and understanding of current issues in STEM education across primary education, secondary education and technology and learning. Critically, you will display enthusiasm and a genuine commitment to deliver positive results to young people and children.
