Dear Margaret and SEDA colleagues
at the University of Brighton we have developed an online study resource, the Academic Study Kit http://student.brighton.ac.uk/ask/.
There is an area specifically for new students with information and advice on what to expect when studying at HE. On the home page there is a short video that we produced in collaboration with students talking about the study skills required to make the most of your time at university.
There are also additional resources in the Study Advice area of the website with more information on self directed study including reading and research skills, writing essays and assignments, preparing for lectures etc.
Hope that helps.
Best wishes,
Lucy Chilvers

Dear List Users
Apologies for cross-posting
Can any of you kindly recommend a resource for Year 1
students who are rising to the challenge of moving through the
transition to self-directed learning at University? One student with
whom I am familiar has defined their goal for this semester as taking up
the above challenge and it would be good to encourage them along the way
(recognizing that this applies to their learning in the undergraduate
medical curriculum across a range of subjects).
Many thanks
Best wishes
Margaret
