Whilst they are not research studies, the JISC Building Capacity Programme does have a couple of guides to support the issue of retention with some quick and simple ideas for interventions that have been tested at a variety of institutions
They are online at http://bcap.jiscinvolve.org/wp/student-engagement-and-retention-01/ and http://bcap.jiscinvolve.org/wp/student-engagement-and-retention-02/
The second guide (mobile) was developed by Bradford and is especially relevant to this area.

Apologies for cross-posting
The Higher Education Academy is leading a Learning and Teaching Summit, together with the Equality Challenge Unit and Higher Education Funding Council for England, to explore the contribution of the curriculum (including learning, teaching, assessment, curriculum contents, academic development etc) to improving the retention and attainment of Black and Minority Ethnic students in higher education in the UK.
We would like to know about any research studies that you are undertaking or have completed that contribute to our knowledge of this issue. In addition, we are interested interventions , programmes or modules that have made a contribution to improving BME retention and attainment.
To let us know about research, interventions, programme and modules, or to be kept informed about this work, please email retention&[log in to unmask] by 29th February.
Many thanks
With best wishes
