Dear researchers and designers of Technology-Enhanced Learning,
 please find below a 'call for papers' of the CSCL@Work workshop takes
place at ECSCW2011. It would be great when you distribute this call to
people who might be interested in this topic.

Thanks a lot,
Isa
 :-)

CALL FOR PAPERS
Workshop

"CSCL@Work -- Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning at the Workplace”;
 How to design collaborative learning at work?
 http://www.csclatwork.org

 Submission not later than July, 17th, 2011
 Publication is planned, a special issue of an International journal.

***********************************************

==ABSTRACT

In this context, learning is no longer an activity that is separate from
work. Learning at work is also about more than acquiring new information
to perform a task, but about developing new knowledge to help a firm, an
organization or a government improve its services in socially measurable
as well as economically measurable ways.

In this workshop, we are looking for case studies reflecting design
dimensions of CSCL@Work, Technology enhanced collaborative learning at the
workplace.

==FRAMEWORK

This workshop is one step in the development of a new and important area
of inquiry for CSCL and CSCW researchers. The objective of this workshop
is to discuss design dimensions for socio-technical systems designers,
researchers and practitioners in the field of "workplace learning" with a
focus on collaborative learning that is supported by social media or other
digital technologies (Technology-Enhanced Learning). We suggest the
identified dimensions (developed in a first workshop in Nov 2010) as a
conceptual framework for comparison of CSCL@Work research sites. The
identified nine design dimensions have been categorized in 3 clusters:

a) human and organizational constraints (1. participating people in what
roles; degree of diversity; 2. organizational reflection processes);

b) socio-technical design (3. media design; 4. social design; 5.
competency acquisition and development; 6. design for informal
structures); and

c) socio-organizational cohesiveness (7. educational design; 8. structural
coupling of involved design elements; 9. definition of success).

Through consideration of these dimensions, designers will be able to
anticipate obstacles within the organization.

==OPEN RESEARCH QUESTIONS

a.)) The nine dimensions we pointed out, are these "all" or could we find
new ones when researching new case studies? What dimensions could be
missed or ignored? Have some dimensions a more relevance than others? If
yes, to what extent?

b.)) Within the dimensions, we analyzed a "degree of", for example high
diversity to low diversity. But we don't analyze the 'value'; what degree
of high to low is best or useful regarding what learning target?

c.)) What "degree of" is appropriate for what kind of workplace learning
setting, what branch, and company?

 Position papers and case studies should reflect at least one of these
three questions and one of the identified nine dimensions.

==WORKSHOP ACTIVITIES & AIMS

 The workshop aim is to collect proposals for CSCL@Work with regard to the
so far identified nine dimensions (see section above), to reflect, and
perhaps to revise them and to create possibly further dimensions. In our
one full day workshop, we will share practical experience and research
results (e.g., case studies) related to Technology-Enhanced collaborative
workplace learning, [log in to unmask] We invite researchers and practitioners
with experience using and designing CSCL/CSCW tools, knowledge management
tools and [log in to unmask]

We plan a publication, a special issue of an International journal.
