CPD4HE Webinar 2, "Open Educational Resources and Accredited Programmes" is this Thursday, 7th July, at 1.00. You will find joining instructions here on Thursday morning: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/calt/cpd4he/events/070711 . See below for recording of Webinar 1.
This second meeting will look at OER development from the perspective of those who lead or teach on accredited programmes on HE Learning and Teaching. Speakers will outline the issues they have encountered around
* Developing your own teaching materials for release as open resources
* Finding and re-using open resources
* Getting help and support
Thank you to everyone who attended the first CPD4HE webinar, contributed ideas and raised questions. You can access the recording of the session via this link (we started recording just after the introduction):

ISSUES and QUESTIONS raised by participants in Webinar 1:
- If you offer your own students full text access to articles, via an institutional agreement, how should you present these texts in an OER? A useful suggestion was to ask publishers to allow use of pre-prints of articles, which leaves the copyright with the author and protects the publisher's license.
- Are publishers worried about the open access/OER agenda?
- The use of the non-commercial restriction in Creative Commons licenses. It reassures some who are new to OER but:
-- "Are HEI not commercial institutions?"
-- "What about commercial activity of HE institutions?"
-- This "means that your materials are only partially open."
-- "We need to build confidence and trust in CC"
- "Teachers don't consider copyright issues when designing materials"
- "'Design for openness' ... needs to be addressed across HE"
- "Is there a wider issue around encouraging the collaborative development of teaching materials? Would this help to encourage/instill a culture of openness?"
Quotations are from the Chat discussion during the session (see recording link above).
