Colleagues,
You may recall that I sent round an information request a while back aimed at those working at the HE/FE interface. This was for a project I was working on for LLUK (before they ceased to exist) as part of their review of qualifications for learning professionals, which looked at serving the ITE and CPD needs of HE/FE community through the two respective professional standards frameworks. A copy of the final report is attached.
On the back of this, and as retiring chair of the Universities’ Council for the Education of Teachers (UCET) Post-16 Committee, I have been thinking for some time that the focus for this committee (for good reason) has mainly been FE ITE, and that HE ITE, and HE in FE ITE and CPD has therefore not had the forum it perhaps merits. On the Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) Executive we have also been discussing how the HE focus of SEDA’s work might be broadened to appeal to a wider post-compulsory community. I have also had a meeting recently to discuss these matters with the Institute for Learning (IfL)
Further email communication also indicates that this might be a good time to form a working group in the new academic year – with perhaps three meetings stretched over the year - to discuss mutual interests and future strategies, aimed those working in this area. I have in mind that the initial focus might be: serving the ITE/CPD needs of the HE in FE community; working with the various professional standards frameworks (UK PSF, LLUK, SEDA PDF); raising the profile of HE ITE/CPD in UCET, and raising the FE ITE/CPD in SEDA – such that both groups might form a complementary lobbying force.
If you would be interested in coming to a first meeting of such a group, and/or you have suggestions for what might be put on the agenda, please let me know and I will form a mailing list to circulate ([log in to unmask]). Please also forward this to other colleagues who you think may not be on the UCET and/or SEDA community mailing lists.
