Dear SEDA List Members,
You or your colleagues may be interested in this initiative from the Institute of
Education, University of London. It is designed to enhance the professionalism
of all staff supporting people in their later life activities and an opportunity to
reflect on how provision can be further improved. The content revolves
around the various situations in which older people live, and addresses such
issues as:
- contexts of ageing, i.e.demographic, socio-political, gender, ethnic, cultural
and intergenerational;
- psychology of ageing, i.e. motivation and goals, maturity and wisdom;
- older learning, i.e.training, self-fulfilment, informal learning, ICT and e-
learning;
- health, well-being and care;
- critical geragogy;
- research into ageing, i.e. cognitive studies, longitudinal studies, life
narratives.
Many resources will be provided around these topics, and participants will be
encouraged and helped to focus on their own particular interests.
Delivery is over 6-8 weeks of flexible, structured online collaboration following
an opening weekend at the Institute on Saturday 27 - Sunday 28 February,
2010. One of our invited speakers at the weekend will be Dr. Ricca Edmundson
who has just published a very important book: Valuing Older People*. She will
present the case for a humanist approach to mature adults and the social
importance of their wisdom. I will send the full programme out nearer the time.
Fee: £688 by bank transfer, credit card or instalments.
