Dear All
My delaying tactic is to wait for them all to come in! Actually, I
think that I have a slightly serious rationale for this. I find it
helps, even when marking to criteria, to be able to compare 'better' and
'lesser' portfolios. I find a great variety in our portfolios. Some
people really do take ownership and make personal claims about meeting
the learning outcomes. Other desperately want a magic formula and yet
others clearly take a highly pragmatic and instrumental line and present
the minimum necessary to scrape through. Just one or two of these
latter portfolios are from talented and student focussed teachers, but
generally the quality of the portfolio seems to me to reflect the degree
of student conceptual change focus that the teacher has. (Are we still
allowed to use Prosser and Trigwell's characterisations of university
teachers?).
The other delaying tactic is clearing one's office. I am off to
retirement in a couple of months, and so the urge (necessity) to clear
out old handouts and "really useful resources" (that one never used!) is
ever present.
