Checklists launched in December 2004
Marketing Checklist: This checklist contains information and resources
relating to the consideration of disabled students in any promotional
activities or procedures including publicity and promotional resources,
school liaison events, and promotional work with international students.
It will be useful for staff in HEI marketing units and international
offices and staff with responsibility for organising open days and
school liaison events.
Employability Checklist: This checklist contains resources and
information relating to the consideration of disabled students in
employability. It focuses on the issues of gaining rewarding employment
at an appropriate level for disabled graduates including the
accessibility of work based learning, placements, work experience, field
trips overseas study and volunteering opportunities. It will be useful
to Placement tutors, staff delivering sandwich courses and foundation
degrees, academic staff and working groups with responsibility for
employability within the curriculum, including field trips and overseas
study.
Admissions Checklist: This checklist considers the process of
application and focus's on how applications from disabled people might
be more effectively handled. There are specific issues that must be
considered when dealing with disabled applicants such as ensuring that
open days are accessible and written information is provided in
alternative formats. General issues such as confidentiality and
opportunities to disclose are also raised and the checklist covers the
whole cycle of application from marketing to interview and through to
clearing.
Library and Learning Resources Checklist: This checklist addresses the
accessibility of information and services offered to support learning in
higher education. The checklist assists staff as they consider the
accessibility issues for disabled people to: print and electronic
sources of information; resource databases; information technology
including enabling equipment; photocopying and reprographics; inter
library loans procedures; and other core services. The checklist will be
of use to staff managing and delivering library and learning resource
services in institutions offering higher education programmes of study.
Catering and Residential Services Checklist: This checklist considers
issues which impact upon university and third party managed halls of
residence, accommodation finding services, university catering and
conference facilities. It provides a series of prompts for staff within
the catering and residential services function to support the review of,
and improvements in, the accessibility of provision in relation to
disabled people.
