Two events in May which may be of interest to listmembers:
1. Constructing, using and evaluating e-portfolios: Sharing collective
experience and building opportunities for future collaboration
10th - 11th May 2005, Goodenough College, Central London, UK
A collaborative event between the American Association of Higher Education,
the Higher Education Academy (UK) and the Joint Information Systems
Committee (UK)
This two-day international conference, the third in a series of
collaborative events, will connect technical developments, pedagogic
practice and user experience. It will provide the opportunity to explore
and develop the potential of e-portfolio practice in supporting:
1. The development and exposition of high quality learning and
teaching.
2. Transition(s) into Higher Education.
3. Learning and development, in particular support for self-regulated
learning.
4. Student employability.
5. Staff and Faculty development.
6. Opportunities for collaboration between UK and US practitioners in
cognate disciplines or constituencies.
The Conference is convened by leaders in the field in both the US and the
UK. Following on from an event in Washington DC, it will feature:
* keynote presentations from international contributors;
* opportunities for detailed discussion and debate centred upon
leading-edge practice;
* a strong emphasis upon the 'student/staff experience' in
e-portfolio building and using.
(This conference is co-located with, and immediately precedes, the fifth
International Conference on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
(sponsored by the Educational Development Centre, City University, London in
association with the American Association for Higher Education, Campus
Academy Program (USA); the Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching
and Learning (USA) and the Subject Network, Higher Education Academy (UK))

2. Joining the Electronic Dots - Supporting the lifelong learner through and
across stages of learning.
Monday 16th May 2005 at Sheffield Hallam University:
The aim of this conference is to bring into sharper focus the technological and
pedagogical issues raised by the movement of learners through and across
different learning environments.
Technology can facilitate this progression or can act as a barrier: effective
learning methods and approaches will take cognizance of the learner's prior
experience, expectations, skills and values.
Drawing on the experience of participants in the JISC Managed Learning
Environments for Lifelong Learning programme and beyond, the conference will
consider how problems are being defined and scoped, and what strategies and
solutions are currently being tried out and evaluated.
