INSTRUCTIONAL CONSULTANT
CENTRE FOR UNIVERSITY TEACHING, UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA
The Teaching and Learning Support Service (TLSS) is looking for an
Instructional Consultant for its Centre for University Teaching for a one
year contract.
The Centre for University Teaching (CUT) promotes and supports quality and
excellence in university teaching. The Centre achieves its mission through a
number of programs and services. Its approach is one of consultation and
collaboration with individuals and units on campus, with a view to defining,
clarifying and highlighting pedagogical issues and then offering a range of
pragmatic programs and activities to support more effective teaching and
learning.
Under the guidance of the Centre for University Teaching’s Director, the
Instructional Consultant develops and offers professional development
programmes on University pedagogy for professors. As a member of the team,
the incumbent will focus on professional development and consultation
targeted to specific audiences from professors to teaching assistants. The
Instructional Consultant will also participate in the organization of events
and on research projects.
More precisely, the Centre is the central provider of professional
development for faculty members and teaching assistants at the University of
Ottawa. It also provides consulting services on teaching practices, through
classroom observations and on the development of teaching strategies. It
runs orientation and professional development programs for new professors.
It offers the graduate course EGS5300: Theories and Practices of University
Teaching, while also coordinating the Practicum in University Teaching for
teaching assistants. Finally, it edits the newsletter OPTIONS and oversees
the program Integrating Technologies into Teaching.
To meet its challenges, the incumbent is part of a team comprising one
director, one senior instructional consultant, one teaching assistant, one
secretary, one researcher in residence and 3 research assistants. She/he can
also benefit from the direct involvement of members from other units in the
Teaching and Learning Support Service.
We are seeking bilingual candidates (French-English) who have the following
qualifications:
§ Master or + in Education or other discipline related to
instructional development and consultation;
§ Experience in university teaching;
§ Experience in Instructional consultation
§ Experience in the use of new technologies in teaching;
§ Teamwork: a team player who values collaboration and openness.
