Supporting HE in FE
Nine free HEFCE funded regional seminars
October and November 2002
The seminars constitute part of the HEFCE funded research and support
project undertaken by NIACE and Warwick University in partnership with City
College Manchester and Sheffield Hallam University. The aims of the
seminars are:
· to develop teaching and support staff’s understanding of the Higher
Education ethos and its implications for Further Education colleges in
implementing processes of Higher Education quality enhancement
· to receive information about and to discuss the research findings
relating to scholarly activity in Further Education Colleges
· to consider evidence relating to good practice
· to agree the principles of a Local Quality framework in each
region, how it could best operate and respond to the needs of staff working
in this field
· to review and contribute to the final drafting of Good Practice
Guidance. Its foci will be the development and understanding of QAA-
compliant systems of quality assurance, and the management and development
of a physical and educational environment which gives learners a comparable
experience to that offered by an HE institution. Materials produced will
include, for example, good practice ideas and guidance on support and
progression; curricula and assessment; resource deployment and staff
development.
The seminars will be of interest to:
· Teaching and support staff in Further Education
