Dear Colleagues
Just a reminder that the deadline for submitting abstracts for the ICE
symposium is drawing near
*deadline May 31 2002*
Ideas in Cyberspace Education
Symposium to be held at Higham Hall, Lake District
30 October to 1 November 2002
Keynote speaker: Professor Mark Poster, University of California at
Irvine, author of The Mode of Information (1990) The Second Media Age
(1995) and What's the Matter with the Internet? (2001)
Web site: http://mcdept.qmuc.ac.uk/ice/
Colleagues with an interest in the educational dimensions of cyberspace
theory are warmly invited to take part in the first ICE symposium.
Over the last decade cyberspace theory has challenged our understanding
of learning, identity and community online. This symposium seeks to
provide an opportunity to engage in a wide-ranging re-examination of
educational experiences within the digital realm. It will attempt to
introduce, in a constructive fashion, a degree of contestation and
challenge to prevailing educational paradigms and to open up new
academic spaces and avenues of exploration.
Colleagues are invited to submit papers for presentation and for
subsequent publication as chapters within an edited collection.
Contributions might be empirical analyses or conceptually-based
illuminative studies seeking to open up new areas of debate. Emphasis
will be on papers offering or informed by challenging theoretical
perspectives.
More information about the symposium, how to submit and indicative
themes are available from the web site at:
