MSc Research Studentship
"The relationship between teaching and research and consultancy: the student
experience"

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the above
MSc Research Studentship at the University of Gloucestershire (formerly
Cheltenham and Gloucester College of Higher Education), which will be based
in the Geography and Environmental Management Research Unit.

Aims:
1. To identify and analyse the views and experience that students
taking undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses have about research and
consultancy and their inter-relationship with teaching and learning
2. To explore the students' views about the benefits and disbenefits of
staff involvement in research and consultancy
3. To recommend how the quality of the students' learning experience
may be enhanced by developing the teaching-research/consultancy nexus.

Candidates for the Studentship
Applicants for the Studentship should have a 1st class or 2.1 honours degree
and be able to demonstrate interest in educational development.
Appropriately qualified candidates who are familiar with social science and
educational research methodologies and who have an interest in student
learning are encouraged to apply. The research student will act as the
Research Assistant for the project and will develop her/his own research
thesis from work related to the project.

The Research Bursary
The bursary will take the form of 15 months funding at £6,500pa, plus the
payment of 18 months of fees for a part-time MSc by Research, examined
through a 30,000 word thesis. Additional funding will be available to
support research travel and conference participation costs. Candidates with
no prior research methods training at Masters level will also participate in
the Postgraduate Certificate in Research Methods, taking one general
research methods course and three modules specifically tailored to research
methods appropriate for the research project.
