Apologies for cross-posting
Dear Colleagues
A few weeks ago I put a message out on the ISL and SEDA lists asking for
help tracing Kolb's Learning Style Inventory (1985). Many thanks to all
those people who replied. As a result I not only managed to borrow a copy
of the LSI, but also learnt about some additional references to the ones I
listed in my email.
Readers may be interested in seeing the learning cycles and styles section
we have created on the Geography Discipline Network Discussion Paper page
(http://www.chelt.ac.uk/gdn/discuss/index.htm
<http://www.chelt.ac.uk/gdn/discuss/index.htm> ). The main focus is on
Kolb's experiential learning theory. The section contains two papers. The
first, by Alan Jenkins and myself, reviews the main features of Kolb's
theory and discusses how it can be applied in geography in higher education.
The second paper, by David Robotham, presents a critical review of learning
style theory with particular reference to Kolb's theory (with no mention of
geography!!). Readers are invited to join the discussion and send their
comments on either or both of these two papers to Phil Gravestock for adding
to the GDN Web pages.
Best wishes
Mick
PS To accompany this section we have just obtained permission to add to the
GDN pages Graham Gibbs' classic book (1988) Learning by doing: a guide to
teaching and learning methods, which has been out of print for some time.
We will let readers know when we have scanned it and redone the diagrams.
