Dear Alison,
Thank you for the helpful additions to the list. I do not
see the list as a tick box list or a list of areas for
which we need to find remedies! I wrote it in order to get
a feel for the full extent of this thing that we expect
students to undertake without, in many cases, much support.
I was surprised to find that the list grew to this size!
In the work I am doing at present, I am linking writing to
a range of thought activities (as does Sally Mitchell in
her work at Queen Mary's. Sally's web site on
thinking- writing is brilliant by the way). I am
interested to think about how writing and thinking
interlink and how the demands on both change through the
course of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. What
students need to do / know / understand about the processes
at level 1/C is very different from what they need at level
3 / H...or Master's.
Cheers Jenny
