Dear John
Firstly, congratulations on launching what appears to be a dynamic email
group! So far I've been a 'lurker' (up to my eyes in starting a presessional
English programme - don't others do EAP teaching as well?).
My preferences are:
Venue - London
Date - 24 Oct
Themes (numbers refer to your Word attachment):
14, 15, 16 (all related)
9
13
Having participated in the London-based LD Network and in 'other-related'
networks such as Writing Development in HE, BALEAP and EATAW, it will be
very interesting to make contact with this new group. No doubt there will be
overlaps.
Best wishes,
Alan

Subject: Conference votes & themes
Dear All
Firstly, an apology for clogging your in-trays with my message to Tamara
earlier today, which should have been sent 'off-list'.
So far the votes for the conference venues and dates are as follows:
Bradford: 7 votes in total. 5 votes for 24th Oct; one for 17th Oct and one
for either Thursday 16th, 23rd or 30th October.
London: 14 votes in total. 9 for 24th Oct and 3 for 17th. 2 'don't minds'
IF YOU HAVE NOT VOTED PLEASE DO ASAP. We have 50 subscribers so there could
be another 29 votes ... it could go 'either way'!
Unless anyone strongly objects, I think we should make this Friday the
cut-off date for voting so that we can get on and organise things.
I have trawled through the last few weeks' messages and tried to summarise
the suggestions for conference themes in the attached document. Some have
people's names attached - I am hoping they may be willing to facilitate
these sessions, if they run (is that OK, John, Liz, Gissi?)
There are 19 suggestions on the list. I don't think we could cover all of
these in a one-day conference. My colleague, Polly, and I have just been
chatting about this. We both think that the first part of the morning
should enable participants to get to know each other, and get a feel for how
we work in our various contexts. Perhaps the first part of John C's
suggestions (no. 8 on the list attached) would be useful in this respect.
Would you be willing to facilitate this, John?
For the remainder of the day, we need to prioritise. Would you therefore let
me have, say, your "top six" choices from the list (or add your own) so I
can get an impression of what people would like. Again, please let me have
these replies (or any further ideas) by Friday so we can begin to build a
programme for the day.
All the best
John
