Hope you don't mind me using this forum to publicise a few resources
produced over here in New Zealand.
1) Academic Word of the Day http://tinyurl.com/6xy9hy
This is a podcast (internet programme including audio) I produce for
International Students. Its aims are to highlight key academic language and
to encourage engagement with the surrounding academic and general culture.
Each podcast includes about 15 minutes of audio recorded by me, with
supporting on-screen text, and a link to an online listening or reading,
with accompanying vocabulary and comprehension questions. The audio file can
be listening to online or downloaded for listening on mp3 players etc. I've
posted an inventory of the topics covered during the last year on this
teaching website: http://tinyurl.com/bbh7xe
Currently, the podcast receives 4 - 5000 downloads per month, with many of
them coming from overseas. Any feedback gratefully received.
2) Academic English Generator http://tinyurl.com/2rlcoe
This is an accompanying website which aims to provide intensive practice in
basic academid vocabulary
3) Free Online Listening Links http://tinyurl.com/4kj8wz
This is a set of categorised links for online audio, which might be useful
for students to practise their listening skills and explore relevant
cultural issues.
Could I also mention our national association of tertiary learning advisors
over here in Aotearoa /New Zealand? It's ATLAANZ and the website
www.atlaanz.org has some more material etc .. and you'll be glad to know
that you're not too late to register for our annual conference, taking place
in sunny Auckland November 18th - 20th!
