In the library at Marjon we currently have 2 stand alone computers on which 10 years of past dissertations, which achieved either a 1st or 2.1, are stored. The information is read only. I am trying, with the support of the library, to change the system so that we only have examples of excellent sections of a dissertation, e.g. good lit. reviews etc. with a foreword on the generic context of what constitutes a good lit. review-which I am prepared to write.
The system of having the complete dissertation on at the moment, means that it can have a excellent lit. review, but weak methodology. There is resistance from the lecturers to this idea as they feel that the whole dissertation needs to be viewed by the students. We have discussed putting comments on the whole dissertation to highlight which section is an excellent example, and which is not, but the lecturers do not want to do this-privacy issues. Does any other institution provide this sort of facility or something similar?
Am also interested in generic dissertation 'workshops' and how they are run.
Any comments gratefully received.
