Dear All,
The ALDinHE professional development working group are holding a training day focusing on Specific Learning Difficulties in Higher Education at Aston University on Monday 20th June 2011.
This one day event of workshops and discussion offers the chance to:
* Deepen your understanding of Specific Learning Difficulties in a Higher Education context
* Find out strategies and approaches that have worked for students with SpLDs
* Discuss the ways in which Learning Development can articulate with specialist SpLD support
Many of us in Learning Development related roles regularly work with students with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs) and liaise with specialist support services on behalf of students with SpLDs. We develop experience through our contact with students, but we may not have as many opportunities to reflect on this experience, put it into a wider context, or share best practice with peers - this day of workshops and discussion offers a chance to do just that!
Workshops will be led by:
Diana Aronstam
Diana Aronstam is Head of Study Support at London College of Fashion. She has a background in learning development, with a particular emphasis on supporting students with dyslexia. Her interests lie in the experience of transition; academic writing within art and design contexts, and in developing materials for students using visual formats.
Dr Angela Taylor
Dr Angela Taylor is a Chartered Psychologist with particular interest in autistic spectrum disorders. She has worked extensively with students who have Asperger syndrome and was instrumental in setting up a diagnostic and support service for them at the University of Reading.
Dr Judy Turner
Judy gained her PhD at Bristol in Experimental Psychology in 1982 after extensive research into short-term memory for numbers. She worked as a research fellow in Psychology Departments in York, Durham and Reading and researched memory, aphasia and baby vision before finding the perfect job and becoming a Study Adviser at the University of Reading. In addition to working in generic learning development she is a Chartered Educational Psychologist and assesses students for dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, ADHD and memory loss.
The event costs £25 for ALDinHE members and £30 for non-ALDinHE members.
