Hi Julia/Kim
I created a group-oriented design that combines small group and whole group
work to generate a quantified and qualitative synthesis of the ideas and
student experience in a year-group.
It's an approach to collective reflection that produces a whole-group view from
the structured dialogue. I call it Shared Thinking and more information is
available from http://www.sharedthinking.info
It provides the learners with a reflective conversation and a whole-group
perspective. It simultaneously provides detailed research data from the
electronic artefact they generate together. It is possible to group these
artefacts to measure experience across classes, year-groups, faculties and
institutions.
The approach uses a snowball group-discussion technique combined with voting
technology or interactive whiteboards. I used to call this student-generated
PDP but the thinking has gone much wider as the research has developed and
it's now called Shared Thinking.
Could this be an alternative? If nothing else the students seem to really enjoy
it!
