Hello Michelle... and All,
I have looked back at past discussions on developing a CPD framework for learning development and attach a digest of the comments.
In brief, this is divided into two parts: firstly, perspectives on developing a framework and secondly, suggested resources and comparisons for the LD CPD programme. The discussion around framework points towards a flexible M level programme of units that may already be in existence and which may be jointly accredited through a national body as well as within institutional programmes. Delivery may be supported through action learning sets, mentoring, peer review/observation, on-line materials as well as locally-delivered face-to-face sessions. Assessment through a negotiated portfolio of evidence, assessed at local level and possibly through a panel of moderators.
Suggestions for content are offered from a range of contexts including English as a second language, introduction to part-time teaching, special educational needs, personnel development, university administration, tutorial role, mentoring and coaching. A number of contributors indicate particular resources that they feel might be appropriate and we will be exploring how best to take these forward within the developing framework.
It would be helpful to know if the possible areas of content might be useful to your own professional development, or whether there are any aspects that are not covered. Also, if you have additional units or resources that you feel may contribute to the development of the LD CPD programme, please do let us know.
Best wishes,

Subject: Professional development for Learning Developers
Dear All,
For a while now ALDinHE has been considering the need for professional development materials and possibly a formal qualification for Learning Developers.
We would like to start a discussion on this issue and gather information about the CPD needs from all of us in the Learning Development community to help in our long-term aim of developing CPD materials which will be of benefit to us all.
We would be most grateful for your comments and ideas. We realise this is an issue which has come up periodically on the LDHEN list before, and Caroline Cash is kindly going to look back over old posts and extract previous discussions to form a framework of needs and expertise. However, we realise these needs may have moved on or changed, so please do send your comments to be added into this.
We are looking for your input on:
1) Your career path - what was your route into Learning Development?
2) Were there any areas (e.g. one-to-one teaching, online resource development etc) that you would have liked more training or support on when you started in LD?
3) Are there any areas that you would like further CPD materials on now?
4) Do you have any existing CDP materials / expertise that you would be happy to share or make available to fellow LDers?
We are looking to gather in all comments by the end of December 2009.
Best wishes and thank you for your help
Michelle
