Do you teach on a programme of study which involves students using
synchronous or asynchronous chat and working together in groups?
Listening and Interpersonal Skills is the learning area being developed by
the University of Leeds as part of the LearnHigher CETL
http://www.skillscentre.leeds.ac.uk/learnhigherleeds/index.htm
We are now interested in exploring further the theme of listening and
interpersonal skills in a virtual world and are hoping to appoint a
research assistant to do some work on this over the coming year.
We are particularly interested in two aspects
1.the role of interpersonal communication in synchronous and asynchronous
chat and
2.how tutors running distance learning programmes provide effective
induction programmes to facilitate the development of students'
interpersonal skills and academic community building.
To help us achieve this we are looking for tutors or module leaders who
offer undergraduate or postgraduate programmes of study which involve some
aspects of online collaborative working we could use as a vehicle for this
research.
There are numerous questions to be asked about what we want to do and how
we want to do it - many of which we don't have answers to yet (many we
haven't even thought of yet!) but I'm keen to find out if there are any
possible partners we could bring in to this work who, through access to
their students would be able to provide various environments to pursue
this research
If you are, or know anyone who could be interested in this partnership
