I joined just to see the RefWorks thread, being made aware of it from a direct email by a colleague who knows I'm massively into Academic Integrity :-) and I've enjoyed the conversation outside of the usual Plagiarism circles; http://jiscmail.ac.uk/plagiarism for example.
Like many more worthy researchers, my philosophy on plagiarism has turned more towards the root causes of misconduct. So, attitudes expressed here are dead on in my view. I've visited several institutions to do staff development on novel forms of assessment to out-evolve the predator-prey rat race that is attempting to maintain 18th C assessment practices. We need to experiment, to take risks, to allow ourselves to fail. We also need to hold ourselves up to the same high standards we demand of our students.
