Hi Ed
I am recalling the 'expectations and prior experience' survey that a certain Christine Hardy at NTU did just prior to starting. She may have modelled this on Tony Cooke's work on induction and transition at Ulster. Though I think she got in from somewhere else...she even persuaded me to run it a few times at Newcastle for comparison. I stopped doing it a couple of years because I felt I was asking quite a lot from the students but then using the data (or even more importantly, showing the students I had used the data to improve their experience!)
regards
Colin

Hello Ed
We have a stand at the Freshers' Fairs for each intake, and do a post-it note board which gives us some useful snapshots. For a few years we were asking 'Whats it like so far, being a new student?".
In Sept. 2012, we asked 'What do you hope to gain from being at University?', and there is some analysis of the resulting picture here:
http://blogs.gre.ac.uk/ed/2012/11/02/what-are-our-students-hoping-for/
We did the same this past September, but I've not got down to any analysis for….
The report and site you've linked to looks very useful as a wider indicator to compare our own snapshot with.
