Hello,
I'm trying to find out what the practice is across the HE sector on time periods for resumitting student work once they have failed.
We have a new semester structure in place and while in the past students are told whether they have passed or failed as soon as their work has been marked, and therefore are allowed to start working on it again as a resubmission, this year students are given advisory grades but then have to wait until the end of the year - June, and are then only given 3 weeks to resubmit.
This brings up lots of issues (3rd year students who cannot graduate; lack of tutors around outside of term time to help students with the resubmissions; long delay before hearing about their result and therefore campus living students would have left and international students may have gone home because of Visa expiry - and a lot more issues especially for those students who require more than 3 weeks and face multiple assignments).
This also gives us a headache because we have to cram multiple tutorials sessions into 3 weeks.
I'd appreciate some input about the practice at other HEIs please so we can try to get a case together for changing this initiative.
Thank you,
Laura
