Kim, I'd support this also. Epigeum contacted me a few weeks ago about
this and I pointed out that we already had a very useful resource via
LearnHigher - as well as from other sources. They were asking for a
very large sum of money from us in order to participate in their venture
- I pointed out that I thought few Universities would have that sort of
cash (certainly we don't) for something that largely looked like it was
reinventing wheels.
I know they've done similar over the past 18 months in respect of
research skills - taking advantage of Roberts funding but it is an
expensive option.

Oops, quick clarification - as I haven't seen Epigeum's materials, I
should have said that LearnHigher were developing many materials with a
similar objective - that is, innovative learning resources to support
students.

Hi Anna,
I haven't had dealings with Epigeum directly, but there was some
discussion about them on the LearnHigher mailing list not long ago,
after several LearnHigher partners were approached. My understanding is
that institutions are asked to pay a fairly substantial subscription,
and also to take part in collaborative development of materials. I
haven't heard anything particularly negative about the quality of
materials developed.
However, LearnHigher have already developed many similar materials which
are currently freely available via the LearnHigher website
(www.learnhigher.ac.uk), and receiving lots of hits from HEIs in the UK
and overseas. This is not a case of "paying your money and taking your
choice" - LearnHigher are committed to excellence in their resource
development, which is supported by research, peer-evaluation and ongoing
revision.
So please, do see if any of the materials you might need are already
available via LearnHigher before spending money and time on Epigeum. And
if you can't find what you need, do contact the LearnHigher manager,
Michelle Verity ([log in to unmask]) or any of the Learning Area
Co-ordinators (email addresses on the website) as there are many more
resources currently in development in the final year of the CETL.
Best wishes,
Kim

Dear all
We have been contacted by a company called Epigeum. Does anyone know of
them/had dealings with them? They are proposing a cross-university
collaboration resulting in a series of onlilne 'training' courses.
Thank you
Anna
