Dear Warren,
The WRASSE project at the University of Plymouth is assembling a corpus of annotated student writing. Not sure if it's live yet (I know there were some problems with the technology) but the people to contact are John Hilsdon ([log in to unmask]) and Julia Dawson ([log in to unmask]).
Best wishes,
Kim

Subject: Writing corpus
Dear colleagues,
Monash University have an impressive set of online academic and study skills resources. Their annotated essays are an excellent tool http://www.monash.edu.au/lls/llonline/writing/business-economics/management/3.xml and this has inspired us to create something similar.
So far we do have a writing corpus (Writing Insight) up and running here at RHUL (blurb attached) but it has very little content at the moment and the programme (Wimba) is quite limited. That is, you can't do the same things on it as Monash have. We are very keen to develop it further and aim to start collecting more example writing from a range of departments. As you can see from the attached snapshot (I can't provide a link because it is on intranet) we have some essay examples but without annotation.
I was just wondering if anyone has had experience of creating something like this. I am interested in how it was created, what is the best software to use and particularly keen to find out how you gathered the example essays. Our academics have not exactly been enthusiastic about the idea and I anticipate some objections when I start to push it. What sort of objections did you have? And what type of essay grades did you focus upon? And do you know of any research in this area?
A lot of questions I know but any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Best wishes
Warren
What sort of problems would academics come up with?
